Hello gamers and especially developers
You can remember me, a blind guy.. so, as for the first shank game, now are my comments and thoughts. Ofcourse i can expect no interests in it, cause you don’t care about blind folks, and for you definitely video game is video game, anyway…
Sound is really enchanced, brilliant, footsteps, envirromental sounds, everything is really nice. Cut scenes and voice actor are much much better playing their roles… But, here’s good think are gone.
Definitely i don’t like the fact, you can’t change weapons on fly, like in previous game, still more like QTEs when fighting with the bosses, now, the bosses are really, really slightly playable for the blind. I expected something compared to first game, or better, but i’ve god something really average. Don’t know how to write it properly, but something is wrong when playing, i’m not feel the game like the previous one..
Lost my cash, but, it was my choice and though maybe it will be playable as the previous one.
Warning for all blind folks who are expecting the same, don’t get it, the most easiest things in the game wich are easy for sighted, will make you stuck for ages. Probably i’ll don’t get any response, or something politics like, we haven’t much budget to raise this game for you.
Anyway, time to play shank one!
Erionon February 8th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
Ah I see you tested it too.
Well, what can I say… Maybe Shank 3? :)
We’ll have to find a way to test multiplayer though, if it is as good as the 2 player mode in Shank, maybe…
I have to agree regarding audio, the voices and the environment sounds are fantastic except when it becomes a chainsaw massacre :D
Erionon February 8th, 2012 at 12:16 pm
Hello,
Here’s what I think of Shank 2 from a blind player’s perspective.
Over all, the game is very nice, however there are some enhancements and changes, which, in my opinion just ruin gameplay and unfortunately make me regard Shank 2 compared to Shank as an over-enhanced version and sadly a failed attempt to create something better.
There are menus which wrap around, meaning that you can keep going down and eventually end up at the top of the menu again. It’s very easy to get lost, especially when you want to set some background music volume in the options menu, etc.
The more serious issues are however with gameplay. As far as I’ve seen, QTE was completely removed. This is especially unfortunate when you are fighting bosses. True, you can grab them when they are weakened, but in the end you end up mashing at most two buttons (usually jump, to avoid their attacks and heavy attack to do some damage). This really makes boss fights meaningless. In Shank, the boss fights were flowing, and each boss had a weakness. I’m at level 4 and there is not much difference so far. Once you know when they attack, it becomes button mashing and avoiding. I’d have liked some more strategy (Cassandra was probably the most frustrating and memorable from the original Shank.)
The controls, I’m really sorry to say, are horrible. With no option to change them (as far as I know, but anyone correct me if I am wrong), the layout is really awkward. I especially dislike the fact that block/roll was moved to the right analog.
Then of course controller 1, keyboard/mouse. I have no idea why anyone would move attacks to the mouse. Especially heavy attack, shift+left click. Movement with the left hand is great though, except for rolling with shift+a/d.
Personally I would go for something like a, s, d, w for movement, and the previous keyboard controls for the rest (ctrl for light attack, etc).
I’m very, very disappointed that there is no in-game way to switch between your acquired weapons. Setting it from menus really ruins the game atmosphere.
On a lighter note, I have to thank you for some very nice enhancements. The wind sound when there is a drop nearby really helps, along with the enemies who talk and also have their own footsteps. They are smart (except when it comes to blasting you with grenades or mines), and I appreciate that they are much harder to kill. In the previous version only the female characters managed to cause some trouble.
The combat seems really nice, especially with the slow motion effects, however something seems to be missing, which I can’t really explain.
The cutscenes are extremely great, and I love the ability to be able to skip them.
Mainly because of these reasons I’m between water and fire really, because there are enhancements which are great, but unfortunately most of them does not make the game appealing.
I appreciate the work being put into this though, no doubts about that. Unfortunately, this game, in my opinion was not really a success.
aaronon February 8th, 2012 at 3:24 pm
As another blind gamer, what I think we really need is a control list for keyboard layout, and a menu list for how to switch weapons, and how to set options.
Have you guys ever considered, somehow, adding microsoft sapi support? there are actual APIs for this, and to stop sighted folks from being annoyed it could, say, when the game first starts, just say would you like sapi support? yes or no and once the option is chosen it will not ask again.
This would help in menues, and if there are any tutorial messages, but that will be all it will be needed for.
Money is not required. There are many free games designed for the blind with sapi in them.
The programmers of these audiogames are working on a very low budget, very low indeed, sometimes not even using a budget at all.
Overall though, I like the sound of the game, I will be playing it on psn sometime this week with sighted assistance.
Hey there! Here’s the control list for the keyboard:
They are also customizable!
Movement: W(Up) A(left) S(crouch) D(right)
Dodge left: LEFT SHIFT + A
Dodge right: LEFT SHIFT + D
Heavy attack: LEFT SHIFT + LEFT MOUSE BUTTON
Light attack: LEFT MOUSE BUTTON
Range attack: LEFT SHIFT + RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON
Jump: Space
Grenade: Q
Use: F
Pounce: LEFT SHIFT + E
Grab: E
Shop (For Survival Mode): Enter
Pause: Esc
To switch weapons, at the beginning of every level you select your weapons. You select your heavy weapon, then your ranged, then your grenades. You can also switch your loadout on the second option in the pause menu.
Hope that helps!
Erionon February 10th, 2012 at 4:00 pm
Huge thanks for the description. I still prefer the original Shank’s layout over this one, but since its customisable, I’m going to fix that issue :-)

Congrats for this awesome game!
just wondering? I really love the textures of wild shank in the first game; is it possible to import them so you can play it in shank 2 ?
Unfortunately i don’t know what was causing it – it just started to work normally after some tries.
As for the hosting you kinda hid it – you need to search first, then if no games are found you become a host. In some games you can choose before searching if you want to host or join
jorgeon February 9th, 2012 at 6:08 am
there is a mouse cursor bug, the cursor is in a loading circle loop
For me the mouse cursor is an hour glass. This issue is only visible in the menu. When a game starts, the mouse cursor changes back to the standard pointer. Hope it helps you guys to nail that one down!

lirinon February 9th, 2012 at 12:36 pm
TRENT:
I am not suprised, it’s not good, because i don’t like ignorants, but the world learned me, the most of companies and really big guys don’t like this kind of support and this kind of cases. Shank is definitely a video game, and is our private choice we are playing it. First game was really accessibel for blind community, and many many blind players was enjoyed thsi great tittle, and finished it. So, i wrote my comments only, if developers don’t care, okay. World again shows me how the money can ruin people around, maybe if not cooperation with EA their looking on some cases can be slightly another. Don’t want to start a word war between me and klei team, situation is really clear for me. Well, can’t give up, and will play this shank 2 until i’ll not finish it, don’t want to lost my cash, so… try again, cause after hours of frustrations, game is really good, i mean audio, anyway, excellent work.
TheIngeniousLocksmifon February 11th, 2012 at 2:37 am
Lol @ blind people getting angry because they can’t partake in a form of entertainment that relies very very heavily on sight.
Seriously, I’d hate to sound offensive, but you shouldn’t be getting mad at the devs for not accommodating blind people, as video games were not meant for blind people.
Erionon February 13th, 2012 at 11:25 am
Good point. However this all comes down to just a certain view. I could argue that most of the things are not meant for blind people, starting from computers, to IPhones, to gaming consoles, including even such basic things as reading a book. And then you would end up with blind people sitting home, missing out on lots and lots of things (btw there is a percentage which does exactly that).
But then, there are those who would like to move forward, and I’m deliberately avoiding the sadly ever so popular jargon of equality and “I have the right to be helped because you can see” here.
The fact that Shank depends on sight is true, and so it was developed with this in mind. The only problem is that with a few, really trivial modifications the entire game would be completely playable, as I and many others have mentioned when Shank 1 was out. These, at maximum, would add one extra hour of development and sound work, which actually would add even more to the authenticity of the game as well. Plus, more sales, etc.
As Lirin said, this is completely Klei’s choice though, but I have the feeling that this is just simply brushed away mostly because of the viewpoint you expressed.
But as I mentioned, this is Klei’s choice, and so I respect that.
VHorroron February 9th, 2012 at 1:34 pm
I have a problem that sometimes when I try to change controls, or some options, the game will freeze and ctrl+alt+del will only fix it. I don’t know if its in my computer but if you could try something to fix it?

lirinon February 10th, 2012 at 12:39 pm
Okay, if someone can mod shank 1 and add all the footsteps sounds from shank 2 the shank 1 will be the best, really lol, this is my next question like, can we have textures from one in another.:P
Erionon February 10th, 2012 at 4:06 pm
Well, I finished the game. Sadly what I said in one of my previous posts still stands. Shank 2 could have been much, much better.
On a sidenote, I’m sure I hit the record of having the most deaths, if I’m right it’s around 200, mostly because of level 6 and 8′s ending. Memorising jumps is not fun, lol. Still, it can be done. Happy smashing everyone :D
TheIngeniousLocksmifon February 11th, 2012 at 2:40 am
I think I found a bug concerning counter-attacks: when Shank is hit while the counter animation is playing, the animation will still play, but the enemy won’t be hurt at all. I’ll try to record it if need be.

Hello,
To the person saying about the game relying heavily on site, then explain how erion has just beaten most of the game without sighted help. He only needed sighted help on three parts out of the entire game.
What you guys have to realise is that this particular game is rather accessible: The sounds are in stereo, so you know where enemies are.
Your best bet is just to guess when to attack and keep dodging. Bosses seem rather easy too, figure out attacks and then battle, which is rather fun.
TheIngeniousLocksmifon February 12th, 2012 at 1:47 am
I never said that the game was inaccessible to the blind, I was saying that you shouldn’t bash someone who’s line of work wasn’t necessarily intended for the blind. The actual concept of playing blind sounds kind of fun.

love the game, also found some bugs on the PC using steam you guys might want to address
1) when having 2 360 controllers on the same PC, I have to exit to main menu every time I finish a game, or the second player can’t join the next game
2) some times I can’t revive the other player, this only happened twice in like 15 games, but still annoying
3) on the map ‘on a boat’, harpoons would for some reason stop working. I can’t arm it no matter what I press. This normally happens for 1 of them, somewhere around wave 10, then later the other one stops working as well and I can do nothing but get killed by zombies =(
4) cursor always on screen after you load the game but I’m sure someone else has already reported this glaring bug

Hmm… I’m afraid I’m not sure how we could fix this, unfortunately. It really sucks, but at this point the only thing I can think of is to erase the save data (or save it somewhere else as a backup)

+1 for Linux and Desura support
Shank was an absolute gem, and I was excited to see it in the Humble Bundle. As soon as you port this over to Linux and throw it up on Desura (or in the next Bundle) I’ll buy it for sure.

Played through normal difficulty and halfway through hard and all of a sudden, my “dodge right” button isn’t working anymore.
Tried allocating it to a different key, several restarts, reinstalled the game, cleared all my save data. Nothing seems to work.
So now I’ve lost all my medals/costumes etc and it still isn’t working. Is this a known bug?
Not at all! That totally sucks, though I really have no idea what’s going on. Perhaps try using the “verify file integrity” option in Steam?

Every since Mark of the Ninja was released, we’ve had numerous requests for more. The trouble is, we very intentionally built Ninja to be a complete experience, both in terms of its mechanics and narrative.
But you all kept sending us messages. Then we considered what a “Criterion Collection” version of the game might be like. And with that in mind, we’ve been putting together Mark of the Ninja Special Edition. Here’s what you can look forward to in the Special Edition:
- A new level, set in a flashback to the early life of Dosan (the enlightened tattoo artist) that will set the stage for the events that transpire in Mark of the Ninja.
- A new style of play, which includes a nonlethal takedown ability, and provides a hybrid of lethal and nonlethal approaches to the game.
- Two new items, one more geared to stealth and concealment and one a bit more direct. Both the items and the new play style will be available in the main game as well as the new level. (more details at a later date).
- Finally, we’ve added a ton of developer commentary to the main game. All the original levels will feature a number of commentary nodes that discuss various aspects of the game’s creation, anecdotes, at least two history lessons and other behind the scenes info from nearly everyone on the team.
- Developer commentary has been fully localized for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese. (Additional details below.)
For anyone who has already played Mark of the Ninja, we’re hoping the Special Edition will give them a reason to revisit the game with both new challenges and insights, much like you’d watch the director’s commentary of one of your favourite movies.
The Special Edition will be available as DLC on Xbox Live Arcade and Steam. It will be released this summer (price still TBD).
Additionally, the Special Edition will be playable in part at PAX East this upcoming weekend at booth #774. If you’re going to be in Boston, we’d love to chat with you and have you check out the game (along with Don’t Starve, of course)!
Thanks again for support us and our game, and we can’t wait to get the Special Edition out to you all!

That would be so awesome. Valve has been pretty slow to respond lately, though, so I think for now manual gifting is required!
It’s cool. I’m buying them manually as gifts. Survival mode is off the hook and the controls are now more PC friendly. Kudos to the entire game team!

Hello,
Here’s what I think of Shank 2 from a blind player’s perspective.
Huge thanks for the description. I still prefer the original Shank’s layout over this one, but since its customisable, I’m going to fix that issue :-)
YES!! Is soundtrack going to be released soon????
Congrats for this awesome game!
just wondering? I really love the textures of wild shank in the first game; is it possible to import them so you can play it in shank 2 ?
Thank you so much
Sorry, that’s not possible — Shank 2′s sprites are FAR more detailed and completely redone.
My game runs smooth but it does not save at all ! i waited for this game long time :( plz Tell me how to save . i love this game :’(
*resolved on twitter.
Thank you KLEI For game ;-))
Maybe respond to the blind people who right long paragraphs asking for help not people with stupid questions
For some reason i cant play co-op – “connection to the player was lost” message and that’s it (
Any ideas ?
I am playing on PC through Steam btw
Also – how can i join someone’s game if there is no option to host ? I don’t get it
Problem solved )
Awesome! What was the issue?
Unfortunately i don’t know what was causing it – it just started to work normally after some tries.
As for the hosting you kinda hid it – you need to search first, then if no games are found you become a host. In some games you can choose before searching if you want to host or join
there is a mouse cursor bug, the cursor is in a loading circle loop
Got it — I’ve flagged that and we’re going to try and repro it.
For me the mouse cursor is an hour glass. This issue is only visible in the menu. When a game starts, the mouse cursor changes back to the standard pointer. Hope it helps you guys to nail that one down!
And what about, strore bug?
When i tried to buy some items i cant :S
Anyone else getting a crash on startup? Playing on the Steam version with my Dell Inspiron laptop that easily handled processing the first game, as well as many other graphic-intensive games this year.
Lol @ blind people getting angry because they can’t partake in a form of entertainment that relies very very heavily on sight.
Seriously, I’d hate to sound offensive, but you shouldn’t be getting mad at the devs for not accommodating blind people, as video games were not meant for blind people.
I have a problem that sometimes when I try to change controls, or some options, the game will freeze and ctrl+alt+del will only fix it. I don’t know if its in my computer but if you could try something to fix it?
please release it for linux also, you can sell it on ubuntu software centre.
I can’t believe how did you make such an awesome story to shank 2! It tells about shanks childhood and past for the player. It’s too incredible
please, i need it for mac, i really really waited for this game!
Okay, if someone can mod shank 1 and add all the footsteps sounds from shank 2 the shank 1 will be the best, really lol, this is my next question like, can we have textures from one in another.:P
Happy smashing everyone :D
fifg
I think I found a bug concerning counter-attacks: when Shank is hit while the counter animation is playing, the animation will still play, but the enemy won’t be hurt at all. I’ll try to record it if need be.
thank you klei for not disapointing me, the game is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
To the person saying about the game relying heavily on site, then explain how erion has just beaten most of the game without sighted help.
I never said that the game was inaccessible to the blind, I was saying that you shouldn’t bash someone who’s line of work wasn’t necessarily intended for the blind. The actual concept of playing blind sounds kind of fun.
this game is good, but it’s too short
the first game was longer
no ones play online :(
yeah, this time we got a smaller single player because they added online, maybe we will get some dlc for single player
The story is very short but it was great, I even unlock all the costumes, now there’s nothing left to do but to start the story all over again, the game is very great KLEI Entertainment I hope there will be a third installment hehehe. (^_^)b
Help! I can’t shoot between 2 enemies, I mean i’m in the middle & I can’t shoot both of them like in shank 1, because of the 360shooting.. any ideas somebody, Jamie..?
Only Dual pistol can shoot at both sides, You just need to tap backward button once and shoot rapidly.
Thanks man! you realy saved me…!:)
love the game, also found some bugs on the PC using steam you guys might want to address
I bought Shank 2 from Steam and I have the same problems..:\ It would be super if you can fix ‘em….! :)
THE GAME IS’NT SAVE HOW I CAN SAVE GAME
how can i save my game progress????????????????????????????????????
he is’nt make an auto-save
Try installing it on the desktop or move the shank 2 folder on the desktop.
add me, i want to play this game online, but no one is online :S
Origin ID: Aizen360
Can we expect a soundtrack release?
I love song during the ship level! is soundtrack coming out soon?
What to say? Shank 2 it’s an instant classic…
Please release the soundtrack ASAP!
Thanks for another gorgeous game…
Will it come out for PC?
Yes its out on the PC Origin or steam.
Linux Release Please …!!
If im with Origin, can i play with steam players?
Is that possible?, because no one is online :S
Anyone want to try a full 30 wave survival with me?.
send a message to gl gigabyte on xbox
A friend of mine is having a problem with boogie shank costume. He bought everything and unlocked the costume but the next time he played it was gone and the medal has 7/8 completed. He tried to buy everything again but it didn’t work. He plays on ps3. Could you try to fix this?
Hmm… I’m afraid I’m not sure how we could fix this, unfortunately. It really sucks, but at this point the only thing I can think of is to erase the save data (or save it somewhere else as a backup)
Okey, thanks. It’s weird because he even has the shopaholic trophy. We’ll try something, thanks
Good news! I don’t know why, but when my friend and I were playing local match and he was player one he bought the minigun and then boogie shank was unlocked. So no worries about a glitch or anything :)
Perhaps try using the “verify file integrity” option in Steam?
will it be out for the ps vita
Desura and Linux please!!!
I love this game loved the first one too. but i seem to be having a problem with being able to select levels to choose one to replay or just to carry on the game from that point it keeps making me start from the beginning. this is a bit frustrating and often leads to me just turning the game off.i’m probably being a bit dense and there’s a button or menu i’ve missed but help would be appreciated (ps3 gamer) : )
